Head Start is Comprehensive Family Support!
The cornerstone of the Head Start program is parental involvement in family goal setting and promoting children’s social and emotional competence. Collectively, parents and staff work towards the goals of:
The Santa Clara County Office of Education is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to provide Head Start services to 2,150 Head Start eligible preschool age children in Santa Clara and San Benito Counties. Head Start centers are located in most cities in the two-county area, including San Jose, Santa Clara, Campbell, Mountain View, Milpitas, Gilroy, and Hollister. The Santa Clara County Office of Education is also the Early Head Start (EHS) grantee in Santa Clara County. The Early Head Start Program enrolls eligible infants and toddlers and provides services in collaboration with CalSAFE (teenage mothers), Job Corps, and Parkway Child Development Programs. These services are provided from Head Start centers throughout the two-county area. Head Start’s free preschool program offers both part-day and full-day early childhood programs. Full-day services are available for children whose parents are working and/or enrolled in school or a training program. All Head Start centers are licensed and staffed by trained early childhood development educators.
