The SCCOE encourages Santa Clara County teachers to seek National Board
Certification ® through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
(NBPTS). The NBTS is an independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization whose
mission is to advance the quality of teaching and learning. To do this, it has:
- established high standards for what teachers should know and be able to
accomplish.
- created a system to certify teachers who meet these standards.
Gaining certification through the NBPTS is a voluntary process open to
teachers with a baccalaureate degree and three years of classroom experience.
Through this effort, teachers may achieve distinction while strengthening their
content knowledge and mastering new approaches to classroom instruction.
To help Santa Clara County teachers with the NBPTS certification process, the
SCCOE provides various forms of assistance, including National Board
Orientations. We congratulate those who have already been successful, and will
do all we can to ensure that the list of Santa Clara County’s NBPTS certified
teachers continues to grow.
